Last week, Microsoft lifted upgrade restrictions on surface Pro 7 and Surface Laptop 3, meaning both devices can be upgraded to Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1/Version 2004). However, media ZDNet reported that despite the past week, the two devices are still not able to upgrade properly.
Mary Jo Foley, a well-known journalist, says her Surface Laptop 3 is still not upgradable. She then contacted Microsoft about the issue, though the company did not provide an explanation. Some Surface Go, Surface Pro X, Surface Book 2 and Surface Book 3 users also reported that they couldn’t upgrade after posting the situation to their personal Twitter accounts.
Microsoft’s own Surface device didn’t immediately get an update to Windows 10 in May 2020, which is quite strange, especially since Microsoft has a few months to work with partners to fix all compatibility issues before it’s released publicly. It’s also surprising that Microsoft still hasn’t commented on the situation since Foley contacted it on July 5. Foley tweeted: “I’ve consulted Microsoft twice about this and why I can’t upgrade after the June 29 release. But Microsoft has so far not responded. “
The main reason why these devices can’t be upgraded is that you have multiple Always On, Always Connected network adapters. Microsoft has fixed the issue during Patch Tuesday in June, and after watching for some time, it recently removed restrictions to block updates. However, it is still not possible to upgrade.
