Microsoft quietly released a supporting documentation update on July 1 stilettos preventing more devices from upgrading to a Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1/Version 2004) feature update, media reported. Depending on the documentation, devices that use the same-bit option in Storage Spaces will prevent upgrades.
The same-bit option is the familiar RAID-5 configuration option. “Parity encoding (often referred to as “erasure encoding”) provides fault tolerance through bit-by-bit algorithms, which can create extremely complex complexities,” microsoft’s official introduction reads. Parity works less obviously than mirroring, and there are many online resources, such as a third-party fool’s guide to erasing encoding, to help understand. This is sufficient to show that it provides better storage efficiency without compromising fault tolerance. “
If you check Windows Update on a device that enables the parity option, you may see a traditional error message. The warning reads: “This PC cannot be upgraded to Windows 10. Your PC doesn’t yet support this version of Windows 10. No action is required. Once the issue is resolved, Windows Update will automatically provide this version of Windows 10.”
