July 8 (UPI) — The Tesla Model 3 has won the 2020 Best New Car award, beating more than 100 competitors, according tomedia reports. AutoTrader, a British car website, rates each vehicle on 16 criteria, including space, performance, reliability, durability, characteristics, quality, appearance and cost. In the end, Model 3 won the 2020 Best New Car Award.
Media reported that the Model 3 is Tesla’s cheapest car, and has become the world’s most popular electric car. Model 3 will sell more than 300,000 vehicles worldwide in 2019, according to Statista.
In addition to winning the 2020 Best New Car Award, Model 3 previously received the 2020 IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus Top Safety Award. In November, Model 3 was re-recommended by Consumer Reports, along with Model S.
In addition to the Model 3 at its Fremont plant, Tesla is also producing the model at its Shanghai super plant. Production of the Model 3, made in China, officially went into track in January after it went into trial production at the end of 2019.
At the end of March,media reported that the plant had reached a new milestone, with the plant’s Model 3 production reaching 3,000 units a week. In May, Tesla’s global vice president, Dowlin, said the plant could meet its goal of producing 4,000 Model 3s a week by the end of June at the earliest. (Little Fox)
