Epic Games announced today that the popular PUBG game Fortnite will provide additional support for DirectX 12 on top of the existing DirectX 11 in the upcoming 11.20 update. Support for the DX12 will come with the Fortnite Chapter 2 update, introducing new features such as new maps.
Epic wrote in an announcement post that the Fortress Night game after DirectX 12 could achieve “higher, more stable frame rates” on high-end graphics. “This is because DirectX 12 inspires CPU performance and allows graphics rendering to be properly distributed across cores,” the game studio explains. “
More interestingly, Epic says it plans to introduce some new features for DirectX 12 players. Although the developer didn’t elaborate, this could be the first step in adding ray tracing support to The Fortress Night. This feature only provides better visuals than DirectX 12 and does not affect the gamity of DirectX 11.
