Recently, Strategy Analytics, a leading market research firm, released its first quarter 2020 smartphone application processor (AP) revenue data report. The report shows that the global smartphone application processor market grew 6 percent to $4.7 billion in the first quarter of 2020, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Qualcomm, HiSilicon, Apple, Samsung and MediaTek accounted for the top five revenue accounting for the global smartphone application processor (AP) market in the first quarter of 2020, according to the data.
Qualcomm continues to maintain its leading position in the smartphone AP market. It accounts for 40 per cent of revenue, followed by HiSilicon (20 per cent) and Apple (15 per cent).
According to Strategy Analytics, Qualcomm SnapSnapdragon 865 and SnapDragon765/G made a good start in 5G phones and appeared in a large number of flagship phones. It is expected that 5G processors will account for 20% of Qualcomm’s total AP shipments in the first quarter of 2020.
Despite the decline in smartphone shipments affected by THE COVID-19, the smartphone AP market continued to grow significantly in revenue, driven by higher average sales of 5G AP.
According to Strategy Analytics, almost all major AP providers have now shifted their focus to 5G, and 5G smartphone AP will drive revenue growth in the second half of 2020.
