For months, the codename for Google’s 2020 Series Pixel smart machine has been sought. Now, people with sharp eyes have found three product codes in Google’s official app, including the legendary “Pixel 5” and “Pixel 4a(5G). Meanwhile, media speculated that the Pixel 5 smart machine, due out this fall, may not have the “flagship” specifications that Pixel device fans expect.
The legendary Pixel 5 / Pixel 5 XL is codenamed “redfin” and “bramble” and is complemented by the mid-range Qualcomm SnapDragon 765G SoC.
But after delving into the code for the latest beta version of the Google Search App, Dylan Roussel found that the Pixel 5 XL was not mentioned, but instead exposed another model in the 2020 Pixel smartphone product line, the legendary Pixel 4a (5G).
The Pixel 4a (5G) model is positioned lower than the Pixel 5, and it may take away the “bramble” code name originally thought to be the Pixel 5 XL.
But the clues so far suggest that using the SnapDragon 765G chipset can also cause some trouble. Although the SoC supports 5G networks, this also means that the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 may run on the same primary hardware.
Previously, Google introduced smaller Pixels and larger XL models each year. It is not clear how this year will distinguish between the third Pixel 4a (5G) and the Pixel 5 devices.
Media 9to5 Google speculated that the company could use lower-cost materials such as plastic on the Pixel 4a (5G) model, while opting for a more advanced texture such as aluminum and glass for the Pixel 5.
