LG develops the world’s smallest Bluetooth module: shaped like a grain of rice, 30% performance improvement

LG Innotek, a maker of cutting-edge materials and components from South Korea’s LG Group, announced this week that it has developed the world’s smallest Bluetooth module, media reported. The module is only 6x4mm, about a grain of rice, and is again 1/4 size smaller than the smallest Bluetooth module previously maintained by Japanese manufacturers.

However, LG said that “the sparrow is small, dirty”, it is based on high-precision, high-integration technology, by the communication chip, resistors, inductors and other more than 20 components, performance even more than some larger Bluetooth modules also improved by 30%, even in multi-wall, barrier environment is still better to send and receive data.

In addition, the module is combined with LG Innotek’s own “antenna integration” technology, which hides the Bluetooth antenna inside the module and improves communication performance by maximizing the antenna area.

Since LG Innotek is an Apple supplier, Han hopes the module will be available on future Apple Watches, AirPods and even iPhones.
