Twitter appears to have completely shut down some of its accounts to send new tweets after a massive hackattack, media reported. The accounts of some prominent figures, including Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Joe Biden and Bill Gates, were hacked to post content about bitcoin scams.
Twitter has not revealed how the account ban works, but for now, the restricted tweets are all verified accounts. Unverified accounts still seem to be able to tweet normally, and verified accounts can’t post new tweets, but they can be retweeted. It is not clear how many Twitter accounts were banned from tweeting, or how long it would take for them to be released.
Twitter’s official account said some users may not be able to tweet, noting that the company is currently trying to fix the problem, during which time password reset sourcing may also be temporarily disabled. Twitter said: “We are currently reviewing and resolving issues, during which time you may not be able to post tweets or reset your password.” “
