Twitter’s pre-market drop of nearly 5% follows widespread account blackout

On the afternoon of July 16th, Beijing time, Twitter was down 4.96 percent as of the time of writing. Today, the Twitter platform saw a wide range of accounts hacked, many U.S. political and business leaders’ accounts hijacked by hackers and the release of cryptocurrency scams. Prominent figures affected by the incident include former US President Barack Obama, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Twitter later announced through its official account that most Twitter accounts with the blue logo had reverted to tweeting. However, Twitter also warned that the tweet ingress feature does not rule out another unavailability because the company is still in the process of repairing it.
