MediaTek, a Taiwanese chipmaker, revised its 2020 shipment forecast for 5G chips in February to 200 million. Since then, we’ve seen the company release a number of 5G SoCs, including the Tianyu 800 and 600 series. DigiTimes’ latest report further illustrates the chipmaker’s strategy, saying MediaTek plans to launch a new 5G mobile chip family that will be laid out on entry-level smartphones.
The chip’s debut will come in late July, citing industry sources, and the company is expected to announce the company soon.
The introduction of the new series, especially the introduction of entry-level model chips, will increase the shipment of MediaTek mobile chips. The company’s 5G chipsets already include Dimensity 1000L, 1000, 800, and 820. The company is also expected to launch the mid-range Tianyu 600 Series, which is reported to have received large orders even before it was launched.
In a report at the end of May,media pointed out that Qualcomm and MediaTek, two manufacturers that can supply 5G processors on a large scale to smartphone makers, will launch an entry-level 5G smartphone processor in the third quarter of this year.
