Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a televised address on July 18 that an estimated 25 million Iranians have been infected with the virus and as many as 35 million others are at risk of contracting the virus. “We estimate that 25 million Iranians have been infected with the new coronavirus so far, about 14,000 have lost their precious lives, and 30 to 35 million people may be at risk of contracting the disease,” Rouhani said in a televised address, according to Reuters. “
Rouhani said the figures were based on the latest report from Iran’s health ministry, but he did not explain why they were so different from previous official versions.
Data released by the Ministry of Health of Iran on the 17th showed that as of noon that day, Iran’s single-day new case of new coronary pneumonia confirmed 2379 cases, a cumulative total of 269440 confirmed cases, of which 13,791 deaths.
The Iranian outbreak has rebounded since May. Iran, with a population of more than 80 million, is the Middle East country hardest hit by the new crown outbreak, Reuters said.
