Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s Xbox division, has been in the news as the Xbox launch nears. In a recent interview with French media outlet JeuxVideo, Spencer had the opportunity to revisit efforts to establish partnerships and ties with Japanese game developers.
Spencer says their Xbox team in Japan is working very hard to build relationships with local game studios, and it’s clear that players around the world are rushing to buy exciting games from the world’s best developers, and that many of them are Japanese game developers, and i hope Xbox is one of the platforms for these games to choose to log on.
“I am proud of the progress we have made over the last four or five years. E3, we’ve shown a very powerful Japanese game on stage. We know we’re not a Japanese platform company, we know we have to rebuild our spirit with Japanese designers. We believe that will eventually happen over time. I’m proud of what we’re going to show on July 24th, and I love working directly with Japanese game developers to create great games, and you’ll hear more about that in the future. We know that making sure we have good Japanese developers is a very important part of our strategy, and they know that Xbox is a platform for them to succeed. “
Mr Spencer has previously said Microsoft would be interested in buying an Asian game developer if conditions are ripe.
