Twitter appears to be exploring the possibility of allowing iOS users to use the Twitter app icon on the home screen, according tomedia Macrumors, based on a new survey sent to members of the Twitter Insiders program. As shown in the image below, Twitter has come up with four different app icons, and the company is now gathering feedback on the new design to see which one user prefers.
Third-party developers of iOS and iPad OS apps offer different icon options for users’ apps, giving them more control over home screen customization.
Take Apollo, a third-party Reddit customer who maintains a regularly updated icon design library for the app, which has proved popular with users. In theory, Twitter could offer a similar option in its official client. Twitter is also testing a new flash screen, as shown in the animated Gif picture below.
Like all app tests that have not yet been publicly released, Twitter may ultimately decide not to implement these changes, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
