Musk: The Model Y, produced in the German superfactory plant, will be very different from the U.S.

According tomedia reports, you may not know this, and while Tesla’s Model Y crossover has a lot in common with the Model 3 in terms of styling and components, it’s actually built in a very different way. Some of the initial problems Tesla encountered in accelerating the production of the Model 3 was that the Model 3 was a complex and somewhat bloated model, which meant that mass production of the Model 3 was difficult and expensive.

Musk: The Model Y, produced in the German superfactory plant, will be very different from the U.S.

Model Y was designed to be easier to build from the start, as seen in many ways, but the most obvious should be its huge cast aluminum rear side frame and body part. This is a very cool component and it will make it easier to manufacture.

Tesla plans to produce a very different Model Y from the current Fremont plant at a superfactory plant outside Berlin, Germany, CEO Elon Musk said on a second-quarter earnings conference call Wednesday. According to Musk, while the appearance looks the same, the under-skin is more efficient.

At the same time, Tesla realized the idea of one-piece casting in Fremont. Musk confirmed that the equipment needed to make the machine is currently being installed at the Fremont plant and will eventually become the world’s largest die-casting machine.
