NASA astronauts say they made a hoax call after the SpaceX manned Dragon spacecraft successfully splashed.

Astronauts Bob Bainken and Doug Hurley said the return capsule was splashed down on Sunday with a satellite phone for them to use. At a news conference later in the day, Hurley described what they did in their spare time while floating.

“Five hours ago, we were dangling in a spaceship and making a prank-style satellite phone call to someone we could reach,” Hurley said. “By the way, it’s fun.” Hurley suggested that the satellite phone bill should go to SpaceX founder Elon Musk, who is sitting nearby. Hurley and Bainken did not elaborate on the contents of the prank call.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon successfully completed the historic Demo-2 mission as part of NASA’s commercial crew program. SpaceX and NASA hope to begin regular missions to the International Space Station later this year.
