Deutsche Telekom’s announcement that it would abandon Huawei devices for two years is a bit absurd.

Deutsche Telekom said it would reduce the proportion of Asian components used to zero within two years, according to German magazine Wirtschafts Woche local time. The move is clearly aimed at Huawei.

Deutsche Telekom's announcement that it would abandon Huawei devices for two years is a bit absurd.

Deutsche Telekom stressed that “Huawei components used in today’s core network will be replaced.” However, Deutsche Telekom explains that a routine change of product is part of a “we change technology every three to five years.”

The German government is still engaged in political discussions over whether to allow Huawei to participate in Germany’s 5G network, and some government officials remain skeptical about national security concerns and say they cannot trust Huawei, it has previously reported. As a result, they have asked to exclude Huawei, the device maker, which has consistently refuted the allegations.

German telecom operators have a different attitude towards adopting Huawei devices. Vodafone and Telef?nica Germany have both said they will not rule out Huawei devices. Deutsche Telekom, for the one, has said it would abandon Huawei as a telecoms operator.

In addition, Deutsche Telekom has made significant changes in procurement policy. The company said it would buy products from U.S. suppliers in the future, rather than huawei.

In fact, on the 8th of this month, Germany confirmed that it would not exclude any particular 5G enterprises. In other words, Germany will choose to open its doors to Huawei. Deutsche Telekom, on the other hand, claims to use U.S. equipment and abandon Huawei, giving reasons that are inevitably absurd!

Deutsche Telekom has yet to respond to the news.
