The new patent exposed Wingtech or is designing a new surround full-screen machine for Xiaomi.

Although the launch of smartphones is intense, behind-the-scenes research and development will actually take more time. As the industrial chain matures, some large enterprises are also used to handing over some of the equipment development to the industry’s well-known original design manufacturers (ODMs). Recently, for example, LetsGoDigital, a Dutch technology blog, discovered a new machine designed by Wingtech.

Despite being low-key in the international market, Wingtech is a well-known and large-scale original design manufacturer in the industry, with many companies manufacturing smartphones, laptops, tablets, wearables, and IoT products.

Two years ago, Wingtech also bought Nexperia, a Dutch chipmaker, for 3 billion euros.

In addition to long-term partnerships with Lenovo and Huawei, OPPO and Samsung also accounted for a large portion of Wingtech’s turnover last year. Earlier this year, Xiaomi and Wingtech also promoted their long-standing relationship.

Interestingly, at the end of 2019, Wingtech Communications filed a special patent application for mobile phone design with the State Intellectual Property Office (now officially included in the WIPO database).

The document describes a smart machine with a full-screen design that features a screen stretching all the way from the left to the back of the body, known as a surround screen design. Even so, the screen border in the illustration is quite slim.

Since the front and rear bodies are full of screens, Wingtech has also designed a pop-up camera system for the machine, which is wide enough to accommodate three cameras and a flash to meet the usual use needs such as self-timers and video recording.

Such a unique design, resulting in the top of the fuselage there is no room left. Instead, Wingtech decided to place the power keyats at the bottom of the body, which also houses the SIM card slot, USB-C port, and speaker openings.

Speaking of which, you should immediately think of the MIX Alpha concept machine that Xiaomi once showed, but the design of the new machine depicted in Wingtech’s patent is more radical.

According to reports, Wingtech is currently focusing on the development of mid- to high-end 5G phones. Unfortunately, it is not clear whether Xiaomi was involved in the design of The Wingtech concept machine.

It follows reports that Xiaomi has outsourced up to 75% of its design and production to ODM. In addition to Wingtech, there are original design manufacturers such as Huaqin and Longcheer.
