7 (Xinhua) — Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg surpassed $100 billion for the first time Thursday, joining Bezos and Bill Gates as one of the world’s only three billionaires,media reported. The fortunes of tech billionaires such as Mr. Zuckerberg have grown sharply this year as the new crown epidemic has prompted a shift to online activity, even as the U.S. economy is shrinking at the fastest pace on record.
Zuckerberg’s net worth has increased by about $22 billion this year, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Bezos’s value has skyrocketed by more than $75 billion.
The day before, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a one-time tax of 60 percent on billionaires’ wealth booming during the epidemic. Based on the assets the billionaires added from March 18 to August 5, Bezos will have to pay $42.8 billion in taxes, Musk $27.5 billion and Zuckerberg $22.8 billion.
