On the afternoon of November 21st, Beijing time, Sony set up an organization called Sony AI, which will conduct research and development on artificial intelligence. Sony said in a statement Wednesday that the new group will set up offices in Japan, the United States and Europe. In the early stages of the project, they will launch projects in areas such as gaming, imaging and sensing, and “food.”
In the announcement, Sony said: “The use of new artificial intelligence technologies in these flagship projects is of vital value to Sony in further enhancing its gaming and sensor business this year. In addition, the company said the study would “work closely with sony Group-related business units.”
The company has previously moved in the “food” sector. In April 2018, Sony, through its U.S. subsidiary, struck an agreement with Carnegie Mellon University to work together on artificial intelligence and robotics. At the time, Sony said its initial research and development efforts would optimize food preparation, cooking and distribution.
