Trademark application exposure: Huawei may launch MateBuds True Wireless Headset in the second half of the year.

In its quarterly report, Analytics said Huawei remains a leader in the smartphone market and outperformed Samsung globally for the first time. At the same time, the company is still gearing up for more new products, such as the Mate series “Family Bucket” for the second half of this year – including smartphones, laptops, tablets, MateStation docking stations, Porsche-branded smartwatches and even true wireless headphones.

LetsGoDigital, a Dutch technology blog, has found that Huawei has recently filed a trademark application for MateBuds in multiple places.

Driven by Apple’s AirPods and Samsung Galaxy Buds, Huawei has also launched the FreeBuds and Freelace True Wireless Headset line. But the latest trademark filings indicate that the company plans to expand its MateBuds product line further.

Earlier this year, LetGoDigital also exposed Huawei’s MatePod trademark. Perhaps given the easy confusion between the name and MatePad, the company refiled MateBuds’ trademark application.

On April 7, 2020, Huawei filed a trademark application for MateBuds with the State Intellectual Property Office, and then on May 26 to Korea (KIPO) and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

In trademark applications, Huawei used the words “MateBuds” and “Mate Buds” respectively. Huawei subsequently filed the same trademark application in Madrid, Spain.

On July 4, 2020, the application was formally accepted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database. If all goes well, MateBuds or the Mate 40 Series smart machine will be unveiled in a few months.
