In the third quarter of 2019, the top 1% of the world’s app publishers attracted 80% of the 29.6 billion app downloads, according to Sensor Tower. This means that only 20% or 6 billion downloads come from other publishers. There were about 784,080 publishers in the bottom 99%, with an average of 7,650 app downloads this quarter.
The report notes that more than 3.4 million apps were used in the Apple App Store and Google Play in 2018, up 65% from 2.2 million in 2014. At the same time, however, the percentage of apps installed 1000 times decreased significantly, from 30% in 2014 to 26%. This is the world of mobile app winners.
