Wal-Mart pushes Walmart Plus for $98 a year.

According tomedia reports, Wal-Mart’s e-commerce business grew significantly during the new crown epidemic, as millions of people avoided entering stores. The big retailer is now redoubled its efforts to meet its ambitious e-retail goals to help it continue to expand online sales and help shoppers get digital orders faster.

Wal-Mart pushes Walmart Plus for $98 a year.

Wal-Mart said Monday local time that it is building e-commerce membership programs to add more goods and benefits, such as same-day delivery and cashless settlement in Wal-Mart’s apps. Previously known as Delivery Unlimited and focused on groceries, the project has now been renamed Walmart Plus and added many of the items consumers can find in Wal-Mart stores, including toys, electronics, household products such as detergents and toothpaste.

All Delivery Unlimited users will be transferred to the new program for the same fee — $98 a year or $12.95 per month. Walmart Plus will be released nationwide on September 15.

“We designed this project to be the ultimate life hacker,” Jayney Whiteside, Wal-Mart’s chief customer officer, said at a news conference Monday. “

The enhanced membership program will help Wal-Mart continue its rapid growth in e-commerce, which is still lagging far behind Amazon, even though it has become the second-largest online seller in the United States. Earlier this month, Wal-Mart said its e-commerce sales nearly doubled in the most recent quarter as more customers used roadside pick-up and other online services.

Asked about Amazon’s Prime service, Whiteside said: “We didn’t launch Wal-Mart Plus to compete with any other product. We launched it to meet the needs of our customers. “

This isn’t the first time Wal-Mart has launched its membership program, which has now been discontinued. Last fall, delivery Unlimited was widely available. Whiteside says Wal-Mart has learned a lot from past projects and used the best part of it for Walmart Plus. This includes faster delivery, with 160,000 items delivered as quickly as the same day at no additional cost. But the order must be $35, the same as Delivery Unlimited’s lowest delivery price. Non-members currently receive free two-day delivery of millions of items, and orders must be $35 or more. In addition, non-members can enjoy some same-day free delivery, but only in certain regions.

In-store shoppers will be able to use the “swipe-and-go” feature, which allows them to scan items on their phones and pay Wal-Mart to complete transactions so they don’t have to queue up to check out. Since 2018, Wal-Mart has been testing similar cashier-free technology at Sam’s Club. This contactless payment method is particularly useful during the New Crown pandemic and helps customers avoid access to payment terminals and other shared interfaces.

In addition, Wal-Mart offers fuel discounts of up to 5 cents per gallon at about 2,000 Wal-Mart, Murphy USA and Murphy Express gas stations. Sam’s Club gas stations were quickly added to the list.

Whiteside said Walmart Plus would benefit more, but he did not provide any details. But she added that the project was specifically designed for the U.S. market and declined to say whether there were plans to expand it internationally.
