In 2018, Google announced dark themes for desktop and mobile YouTube. The dark theme is dark gray rather than pure black, so it looks great on devices with AMOLED panels such as Surface Pro X and Galaxy Book.
The new dark theme is set to off by default, but users can choose to enable dark mode from YouTube’s settings. After today’s update, if you use CHrome on the Windows 10 platform to access the web version of YouTube, it will follow the user’s system theme settings.
A new option called “Use Device Theme” has been added to allow YouTube web apps to automatically update their color schemes to follow the settings of windows 10 systems.
This feature is already available in Android 10’s YouTube app, and it clearly gives users a unified experience. The Light Theme option is still available, allowing you to force light themes on YouTube when Windows 10 is in a dark theme.
