Google Maps is introducing a new feature that will allow users in Austin, Texas, to pay for parking directly on the platform, according tomedia Source. The new feature was provided by Google in partnership with Traffic, a transportation software company. Passport announced the partnership on Wednesday in an effort to make direct payments for parking fees through Google Pay. The feature, which will be available on iOS and Android starting Wednesday, is scheduled to be available in more regions in the coming weeks.
Vishal Dutta, product manager at Google Maps, says:
“We’re excited to work with Sportsport to help Austin drivers pay for parking faster and easier on Google Maps. Google Pay and Google Maps are able to seamlessly integrate Sports’ software, which helps us make this a reality. “
In addition to Google Maps’ mobile app, drivers can also access Google Pay’s website from their mobile browser to process payments. Users can pay when they are near their destination by clicking the “Park Pay” button at the bottom of the app. You can also set a parking time before choosing a payment method.
Gina Fiandaca, a city official, cited some of the benefits the feature brings to drivers, such as increased convenience and reduced physical contact with “parking meters or toll meters, especially in the current global pandemic.”
