A few hours ago, NVIDIA shared a video in which the DOOM Eternal RTX 3080 “destroyed” the RTX 2080Ti while running, with more than 150FPS of game frames at 4K, the highest full-quality setting. However, it seems that NVIDIA has since shared more performance data for the next generation of flagship GPUs. Compared to the RTX 2080Ti, the new flagship GPU is a new and different performance monster.
Justin Walker, director of product management at NVIDIA GeForce, revealed more FPS data for RTX 3080 graphics cards. In response to a question about whether the RTX 3080, which has only 10GB of memory, was enough to run next-generation 3A games, Justin replied that their next-generation flagship goal was to deliver very good performance at 4K, full-quality settings.
Justin even shared some examples of RTX 3080 running multiple 3A games at 60-100FPS at 4K, full-quality (high score map, light chase on). The games mentioned include Tomb Raider: Shadows, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, German Headquarters: New Blood, War Machine 5, No Lord’s Land 3, Subway: Escape and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Three of the above games mentioned by Justin – Subway: Escape, Tomb Raider: Shadows and German Headquarters: New Blood – support light chases. Media WCCF said they had previously used RTX 2080Ti to test the highest preset, “Subway: Escape”, with only 47FPS frames, which did not turn on any Gameworks effects. And Justin’s “they test everything to the highest” includes Gameworks effects, of course, so a number of frames above 60FPS can be said to be a huge leap forward.
Justin then added: “Significant breakthroughs have been made in GPU architecture, process technology and memory technology, and the RTX 3080 is strong enough to run multiple games at 4K/144FPS in full picture quality, such as DOOM Eternal, Extreme Race 4, German Headquarters: New Blood, and so on.” But other games, such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Control and Masterless Land 3, can reach nearly 4K/60FPS at full-height picture quality.
