Thanks to the popularity of the Apple Watch Series 5, Apple is a leader in the North American wearables market. Wearable devices such as the Apple Watch and FitBit continue to grow in popularity in North America, with a 10 percent year-over-year increase, in part because of the popularity of fitness bracelets under $50, according to the latest Q2 2020 research shared by market research agency Canalys.
The Apple Watch Series 5 is the best-selling smartwatch in North America, matching shipments of the Apple Watch 4 in 2019, according to market researchers at Canalys.
Canalys also expects the wearable market to be further segmented into “fitness bracelets” and more comprehensive “medical devices” by 2021. The upcoming Apple Watch Series 6 may belong to the latter, with new health tracking features including oxygen monitoring, anxiety monitoring and sleep tracking.
