California is suffering from a heat wave and wildfires, media reported. Many of the fires in Northern California were caused by lightning strikes, while the El Dorado fire in San Bernardino County, east of Los Angeles, was caused by a very man-made cause: a sex-revealing party.
The California Fire Department, which monitors and responds to forest fires, released a report Sunday on the cause of the El Dorado fire. Law enforcement at the California Fire Department determined it was “caused by a smoking pyroteot device used at a gender-revealing party.” “
“Gender Revealing” parties are a popular way to tell friends and family whether a would-be couple has a boy or a girl. The arson took place on 5 September.
As of the end of last month, the fire covered more than 7,000 acres. Several communities through the fire were ordered to evacuate, and the San Bernardino National Forest closed a long line of intersections and other recreational areas.
This is not the first time that gender revelations have caused damage. In 2017, a similar celebration sparked the Arizona sawmill fire, which eventually spread and covered 45,000 acres.
The California Fire Department is currently tracking multiple fires across the state. Satellite images show a large plume of smoke and will only get worse, according to new images shared over the weekend by the Cooperative Institute for Atmospheric Research at Colorado State University.
The California Fire Department warned the public that those who set fire to an act of negligence or illegality will be held financially and criminally responsible.
