Samad Aerospace is committed to combining two main areas of interest to Dr. Mohseni. The start-up, which was founded around 2018, initially promised to launch an electric vertical take-off and landing business with a range of 1,500 miles (2,414 kilometers) and a top speed of 450 miles (724Km/h), five seats and room for luggage. So how can it provide such a large range? The answer is to use a gas turbine generator. The device, called Starling Jet, now appears on the company’s website as a 10-seater, with a range of up to 400 miles (644 kilometers) compared to the smaller seven-seater e-Starling. That’s far more than cash-rich companies in the eVTOL market now say.

In appearance, the Q-Starling is a fairly traditional aircraft, but its retractable cover and tail wing on the side reveal an electric “reaction control system” fan that allows the aircraft to balance when hovering like a quadcopter.
