Porsche wants to compete directly with Tesla’s Model S when it launches its Taycan electric sedan, according tomedia reports. While it’s not really close to overtaking Tesla in the sales race, it’s Porsche’s best-selling non-SUV model. In the brand’s third-quarter sales report, Porsche said it sold 1,858 Taycan sedans. That’s more than 911, which sold just 1,567 vehicles in the last quarter, and more than 718 range or Panamera.
The 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster sold 1,084 cars, while Porsche’s Panamera sold 1,064. In fact, Taycan’s sales outstripped Panamera’s, which was impressive.
However, these passenger cars are not selling as well as Porsche SUVs. Cayenne sold 4,509 units, actually up 5% from the same period last year. Please note that this also occurs during the new coronavirus pandemic. The smaller Macan is the company’s best-selling model, with 5,466 SUVs moving from dealers to driveways. However, this figure is down 16% from the same period last year.
If buyers don’t buy a new Porsche, they won’t shy away from certified used cars. The company said its CPO business grew 26 percent in the third quarter, with 7,661 CPO Porsches finding new homes.
