On Thursday, MediaTek unveiled the MT9602 chipset for high-end smart TVs. The chipset supports up to 4K HDR screens, thanks to AI-PQ (image quality) and AI-AQ (sound quality), HDMI 2.1a, global HDR, AV1, and AVS2 decoding support, and MediaTek says it can improve image and audio quality for real-time video.
The first TV to carry the chip is understood to be from Motorola, and the product is scheduled to be launched by Flipkart in India on October 9. It is said to be the first smart TV on the Indian market with an Android 10 system.
The Needco MT9602 is equipped with AI voice technology and up to four directional microphones, allowing OEMs to integrate voice assistants for hands-free voice control and other home IoT integrations. It supports Dolby Atmos surround sound, Dolby Vision HDR, dual-band Wi-Fi and an efficient response time compensation engine to help reduce blur. The Concord MT9602 is a four-core chipset with Mali-G52 MC1 GPU, 60Hz refresh rate and up to 2GB of memory.
