Tesla’s Model 3 is the most attractive and the most-purchased electric car, according to NationalWide Vehicle Contracts, a car and truck rental provider, according to the smart money app. The provider analyzed Google search data for 126 different automakers and their models, including 74 electric cars and 72 hybrids or plug-in hybrids.
Tesla’s Model 3 model topped the search list with 1,852,356 monthly searches worldwide, according to the data. The search was more than three times that of Nissan LEAF, which came in second with 565,689 monthly searches.
Tesla’s other two models, the Model X and Model S, have closest searches to the Nissan LEAF: the Model X has 553,999 monthly searches, ranking third; Model S ranked fourth with 524.479 monthly searches.
By 2020, Europe will be the biggest fan of electric cars. European electric vehicle sales accounted for 414,000 vehicles sold in the first half of the year, according to global electric vehicle sales data from EVVolumes.com. Despite health events, sales of electric cars are up 57% from the previous year.
For the first time since 2015, Europe has overtaken China in electric vehicle sales, which came in second with 385,000 units. This was followed by the United States at 111,000.
