Windows 10’s market share has risen significantly as Edge reaches double-digit levels for the first time

Netmarketshare released its October 2020 operating system and browser market share report. The report showed a sharp increase in market share for Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge, while Chrome’s market share declined slightly. On the operating system side, Windows 10 rose to 64.4 percent from 61.26 percent the month before.

Windows 7 also dropped from 22.77 percent to 20.41 percent. MacOS X 10.15 also fell from 5.11 per cent to 4.88 per cent, while Linux fell from 1.14 per cent to 1.65 per cent.

On the browser side, Chrome fell from 69.94 per cent to 69.25 per cent, while Edge rose from 8.84 per cent to 10.22 per cent. The rise may be due to Microsoft pushing the new Edge as part of Windows 10 20H2. Meanwhile, Mozilla Firefox rose from 7.19 per cent to 7.22 per cent.

This will be Netmarketshare’s last data report, and the company says it has been fighting robots that distort statistics and changes in browser user agent strings that will prevent it from getting accurate data in the future.
