Panasonic will reportedly produce a new battery for Tesla at its Nevada superstation that will support faster charging speeds. Earlier this year, Panasonic announced an additional $100 million in investment in a Nevada superstation, a joint venture between Panasonic and Tesla that makes battery cells for Tesla. As part of the investment, Panasonic said it would increase the density of batteries produced at the Nevada superstation by 5 percent and increase total production by 10 percent.

Celina Mikolajczak, a long-time battery specialist at Tesla, is now vice president of battery technology at Panasonic Energy North America. Mikarazka spoke at stanford’s StorageX International Symposium and revealed more about batteries. Panasonic is currently retrofitting its Nevada superstation line to prepare for the production of new cells, she said. She revealed that the new battery not only increases energy density by 5%, but also has “excellent fast charging performance.”

This means that tesla vehicles will be charged more quickly in the future, and faster charging speeds will undoubtedly increase the satisfaction of owners. Mikrazka also did not specify when Panasonic would begin supplying Tesla with new battery cores, but it is speculated that the new batteries may already be available to Tesla or be submitted to Tesla in the near future.
Battery cells made at the Nevada Superstell are used in Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y models. Recently, both vehicles have received performance improvements and increased range, raising speculation about whether Tesla has used new batteries in these vehicles.
