World Radiocommunication Congress assigns 5G extra bands

According to the Russian Ministry of Communications, the World Radiocommunication Conference assigned the IMT-2020 (5G) an additional band of more than 24 gigahertz (GHz) and allowed the BRICS countries to use the 4.8GHz -4.99GHz band. These bands are smaller than the 3.4GHz -3.8GHz load in the 5G band most commonly used in Russia. The Russian Ministry of Communications noted that the 2019 World Radiocommunication Congress allocated the 24.25GHz -27.5GHz, 37GHz -43.5GHz, 66GHz -77GHz bands to 5G.

Several major Russian telecommunications operators are now testing 5G in other bands of 25.25GHz -27.5 GHz and 4.9GHz, but they say these bands can only be used as a supplement to the main band 3.4GHz -3.8GHz, the report said. The 25.25GHz-27.5G Hz 5G band will be auctioned in the first half of 2020, according to Russian communications ministry officials.
