Tesla has teamed up with Neoen to build a 300-megawatt lithium-ion battery energy storage system in Australia

French renewable energy company Neoen announced on Thursday that it would once again work with Tesla to build a 300-megawatt lithium-ion battery storage system in the southeastern Australian city of Geelong. The energy storage system, called the Victoria Big Battery, will use Tesla’s Megapack technology and will be three times the size of the battery storage system that Neoen and Tesla previously deployed in Hornsdale, South Australia.

Neoen said in a statement on Thursday that installing the new system in Australia’s second most populous state would help modernize and stabilize the local grid, which aims to source 50 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The company expects the new system to be operational by the end of 2021.
