Microsoft is believed to be developing an Echo-like speaker, according to a new patent filing, according tomedia. And a patent released earlier this year revealed the integration of Microsoft-branded speakers with Teams in the business, and the new patent, now published, reveals the device’s consumer-centric capabilities.
According tomedia outlet Windows, they found that Microsoft filed a patent in May 2018 called “High-efficiency speakers with multi-magnet structures” and was released by the USPTO on November 26, 2019. The device is cylindrical and looks similar to a traditional speaker, the documents show.
“In traditional large speakers, a flexible corrugated bracket called a spider is used to hang the sound ring in a basket,” Microsoft said in the background section of the document. In a different variant, spiders can attach to the membrane while attached to a basket or magnet, thus providing stability for the membrane within the corresponding range of motion. “
Microsoft says the patented speaker uses a multi-magnet structure with a ring between the inside and outside magnets.
