Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, said he had experienced Valve’s latest virtual reality masterpiece, Half Life: Alyx, and said he was extremely impressed by the work. Spencer, who tested the game over the summer, said it was great. He has recently been criticised by some for his comments on virtual reality, which some fans see as a defiance of virtual reality.
Today, however, he made it clear that he appreciates the industry’s efforts in areas such as artificial intelligence, physics, 3D, ray tracing, virtual reality and augmented reality, and that he has played a number of VR games, but that’s not the focus of the upcoming Scarlett host project.
Recently, Spencer talked about Microsoft’s focus on building a bigger first-party game library, and said it should focus more on RPG games.
In the past, Spencer has not been the only executive to “appear less interested in virtual reality.” CDProjekt also notes that t VR is still a “good niche market”, but it’s very, very small (and a lot more “very”).
