RMS certainly doesn’t make unfounded accusations against GitHub, which started when a developer posted a letter on the GNU mailing list with the theme “RMS: users you request sims program HURD: they fear the path the linu x kernel is going” message, which also retells some of the user statements on the 4chan forum, to the effect that because the current core developers of the Linux kernel are basically working for major technology companies — you can think of the development of the Linux kernel and the close connection between these technology companies. For this reason, some users are concerned about the future of the Linux kernel.
Worried that the Linux kernel would go down the path of the future, they thought of RMS and asked if they could continue programming FOR HURD( which is GNU’s own kernel) and make stubs for HURD to take advantage of the various free hardware drivers for the Linux kernel.
You can see that many users are supporting HURD and opposing Linux projects, some of whom think that Linux is too bound by Linux, some people think Linux is a disgrace to FOSS, others think Linux is becoming more politicized, and finally they all agree that GNU HURD should continue to do so Fight against The Linux Chamber.
Initially these users were discussing Linux kernels, HURDs, and RMS, but then they slowly went away, and the conversation turned to Microsoft, and then to GitHub…
First, one user thought Microsoft had benefited a lot from “open source”, but it didn’t mention free software, but rather tried to get rid of free software as much as possible, for example, Microsoft didn’t mention GNU and FSF, and has been promoting the concept of “open source.” Then there were a lot of people who agreed with the post, and then a user’s “Kill GitHub will actual ly help Free Software” statement caught the attention of RMS.
RMS began to talk about his views on GitHub, which he believed had been sloppy in its approach to open source software licenses (which were flooded with projects without licenses, unclear licenses, or only one GPL version), and had done serious harm to the free software community. He also believes that GitHub has always been so bad for free software that he can even imagine getting worse if it were acquired by Microsoft.
In the end, Apple was on the gun, and RMS said apples were worse than Microsoft.
BTW, RMS was also invited to speak at Microsoft recently, noting that Microsoft’s open source contribution has done nothing for the “free world”.
