Canonical launches decade-long Ubuntu Pro for AWS

Canonical yesterday announced that It will provide Amazon with Abuntu Pro images for Amazon Web Services (AWS). This new image is available through AWS Marketplace and covers Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 16.04 LTS and 18.04 LTS, and businesses are available on Amazon ElasticE Cloud C2) select and run the image on to use. Because Ubuntu Pro is a cloud-oriented product, it provides additional capabilities for cloud enterprise deployments based on Ubuntu.

The main features of Ubuntu Pro are as follows:

Provides ten years of package updates and security maintenance

Kernel Livepatch, withno need to restart to apply in-app nuclear security updates, ensurecontinuous security patches, longer uptime and higher availability

Use custom FIPS and common EAL-compatible components for environments under compliance systems such as FedRAMP, PCI, HIPAA and ISO

The patch for Ubuntu Infrastructure and Application Warehouse covers hundreds of open source projects, including Apache Kafka, MongoDB, Node.js, RabbitMQ, and Redis.

Integration of AWS security and compliance features, including AWS Security Hub and AWS CloudTrail (available in Q1 2020)

In addition, Ubuntu Pro on AWS charges approximately $0.229 per hour, although it varies depending on the instance type.

Finally, it is important to note that ten years of maintenance time does not apply to any version. Only Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is maintained for 10 years, 14.04 LTS and 16.04 LTS for 8 years. In addition, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS certification is in progress and will be available in the first quarter of 2020. Certified components and kernel real-time patches are not available for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
