On Wednesday, Apple hosted the first Apple Music Awards world-wide artist of the year, Billie Elish, at apple park’s Steve Jobs Theater, media reported. The company has also reportedly signed a $25 million deal with Elish to get exclusive rights to a documentary about the pop star, which will air next year.
Ehrlich’s brother Finneas is also understood to have taken to the stage. Apple Music DJ Zane Lowe said the concert was not only for the winners, but also for Apple Music and its community, and singled out Apple’s commitment to musicians and the industry as a whole.
“I’ve never done anything like this before, which is kind of crazy,” Ehrlich said.
The show will be available on demand through Apple Music.
In addition, Apple will break with the norm by choosing to play Alyss’s documentary on its Apple TV-plus video streaming service platform rather than Apple Music. The documentary is expected to be released in 2020.
