Beyond Meat, a man-made meat, said Thursday that its “plant meat” vegetarian burgers will be sold at some stores at Costco Wholesale Corp, the US supermarket chain. The company said its popular “Beyond Burgers” would be sold in states including Texas, Florida and New York, with eight packs priced at $14.99 each.
The retail market for artificial meat is heating up. Beyond Burgers’ main rival, Impossible Foods, has also recently started selling its products in a number of stores.
The global market for “plant meat” is expected to soar to $140 billion over the next decade. As health-conscious consumers want to cut back on meat consumption, they are worried about the environmental impact of industrial livestock.
