Netcraft’s monthly Global Web Server Survey, published on Netcraft’s website, is the primary reference for today’s understanding of the number of websites and the distribution of server slots in the global web market, and the November 2019 report is now available. The November report included 1,308,343,327 site data, including 243,734,379 separate domain names and 9,274,744 Web-facing computers.
All site data are as follows:
Although Microsoft overall gained the largest number of sites, the domain grew relatively little, while Apache’s overall domain market share declined despite a significant increase in domain names (-268,000).
nginx performed well, with the number of domain names increasing by almost twice as much as Apache’s ,522,000, and its market share remaining virtually unchanged. nginx has also achieved significant growth in Web-oriented computers ( .113,000) and the top million most active site data has increased by 1,000, making it the largest increase in market share in these metrics.
However, the most notable growth in domain names this month was Cloudflare and OpenResty, which grew by 1.06 million and 558,000 domain names, respectively. OpenResty leverages the nginx kernel and integrates it with other Lua-based modules, while Cloudflare’s own server software was originally based on nginx. The total number of domains for Cloudflare Web server software is 18.22 million, and OpenResty’s domain sits 7.1 million.
