Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica has decided to apply Huawei devices to its 5G core network, media reported. Huawei has previously supplied 2G and 4G devices to Telefonica, but unlike before, Telefonica said it would seek a second telecoms provider other than Huawei next year, a decision that some European countries consider more vulnerable to attack using a single-vendor device. So i hope to introduce multi-supplier hedging risk.
Portugal also appears to be planning to give China the green light, with Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos reportedly saying suppliers would be assessed on a case-by-case basis in the face of U.S. calls to boycott Huawei.
Altice Portugal, Portugal’s largest telecommunications company, has teamed up with Huawei to develop its 5G network and hopes to launch it next year.
So far, Huawei has been involved in the initial 5G deployment of operators in the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy. In a sense, America’s containment policy is not effective in Europe.
