Huawei Harmony OS has recently taken on a new dynamic – According to the Shenzhen Special Administrative Region, Wang Chenglu, president of Huawei’s consumer business software division, said at the HUAWEI Talk theme-sharing conference on December 8 that huawei’s other end products, in addition to mobile phones, tablets and computers, will be fully equipped with Harmony in 2020. At the same time, Harmony OS is advancing simultaneously at home and abroad and will be fully open source in August 2020.
However, Wang Chenglu also revealed that Huawei phones will still be preferred Android system, really can not use Harmony.
In fact, in the first half of this year, rumors continued about Huawei’s self-developed operating system, when Huawei was added to the U.S. government’s list of entities and Google stopped providing Android support to Huawei. In part, this has accelerated the introduction of Harmony OS.
From August 9 th to August 11 this year, the 2019 Huawei Developer Conference was officially held. At the conference, Huawei released the impressive self-study operating system Harmony OS, whose English name is Harmony OS.
Regarding the original intention of developing Harmony OS, Huawei Consumer Business CEO Yu Chengdong said:
With the advent of the era of full-scene wisdom, Huawei believes that the cross-platform capabilities of the operating system need to be further enhanced, including the ability to support the full scene, across multiple devices and platforms, and the ability to meet low latency, high security challenges, so it gradually formed the prototype of Harmony OS.
He added that Harmony OS is a different starting point than Android and iOS, a new microkernel-based distributed operating system for all-scenes that simultaneously meets the requirements of a full-scene smooth experience, architecturally trusted security, seamless collaboration across endpoints, and a single development of multi-terminal deployments.
To meet the high standards of connectivity requirements for a full-scene intelligence experience, Huawei also offers four featuresystem solutions:

Although there was initial speculation that Harmony OS was an operating system for mobile phones, this was not the case – it was first used in smart screen products.
On August 10, the day after Huawei’s developer conference 2019, Huawei’s sub-brand Glory officially released its Smart Screen product, and the harmony OS’s true look was unveiled here.
It is reported that at the UI design level, the UI of the glorious smart screen is not particularly different from the smart TV commonly found in the market, mainly reflects the simple, clear, smooth and other aesthetic characteristics, in the multi-device interaction level, the glory smart screen adopts the distributed architecture of Harmony OS, can achieve multi-device collaboration. Its camera supports 1080P HD, 5meter pickup, and 10-degree pitch adjustment – using Harmony OS’s distributed technology, the smart screen can not only talk to a smartphone, but also be able to link up with the udhouts in Daji to remotely present drone-shot content.
Although Harmony OS was first launched with smart screen products, that doesn’t mean it can’t support smartphones. Yu Chengdong stressed at the press conference:
Android is still the first operating system for Huawei smartphones, but if Huawei can’t use Android, Harmony OS can be applied to smartphones at any time, and the migration takes only one to two days. And, over the next three years, in addition to improving the technology, Harmony OS will be gradually used in wearables, smart screens, locomotives and more smart devices.
After the press conference, Premier Zhao Ming was interviewed. As for Harmony OS’s debut on the Glorious Wisdom Screen, he also made his comments, “Harmony’s debut here in glory is also because the glory is positioned as a brand for young people and is bolder in trying new technologies.” ”
The Next Step for Harmony OS
In September 2019, Yu Chengdong said the Harmony OS was almost ready and that the P40, released in March 2020, could be the first phone to be equipped with the Harmony OS.
Although it remains to be seen whether Huawei’s phones will receive Android support in the future, according to Wang Chenglu recently (“In addition to mobile phones, tablets and computers, Huawei’s other terminal products will be fully equipped with Harmony system” Huawei phones will still be preferred and Andriod, Harmony is not really going to be used, and next year’s P40 is likely not to be equipped with Harmony OS.
In addition, industry observers point out that the greatest significance of Huawei’s Harmony OS is not just to support smartphones, but to connect all of Huawei’s end products (1 plus 8 plus N full-scene smart life) to create Huawei’s large-scale IoT-based ecology. Among them, “1” refers to mobile phones, “8” refers to PCs, tablets, speakers, headphones, locomotives, glasses, smart screens, watches and so on.
It’s worth noting that while consumers may not see smartphones with Harmony OS next year, Huawei’s smartphones are quietly changing- Huawei’s plan to improve Android is under way to address the Cadon issue. Wang Chenglu revealed:
