Apple’s new patent shows future Apple Pencil can change shape and make users feel comfortable

Future versions of Apple Pencil may be customized to provide comfort, and parts of the stylus can be expanded or changed to suit the user’s specific painting or writing style. One of the problems with Apple Pencil and many other pens, pencils and similar items is that its static shape isn’t necessarily the most comfortable for all users, so apple Pencil’s fixed size and shape can make users uncomfortable when they’re working long hours.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple a patent called an adjustable handheld styling, which proposes ways to change the holding area of the Apple Pencil to better accommodate users of different sizes. By setting up a section that surrounds the pen body and overlaps at a point, you can control the expansion and contraction of that part between different states, changing the amount of overlap in the process. The system can use an electric motor, which has a stator on one part and a rotor attached to the second part, and although bearing elements can be used, torque is used to move the outermost point around the circumference above the lower layer. In the case of motors, this can also help provide the user with a haptic feedback element.

In other words, in the future, Apple Pencil will not only change the length of the user’s needs, but will also become a triangle rather than a circular shape. To do this, Apple can make a pen using heat-affected shape memory materials or electrically active materials that change with the electric field. Apple Pencil changes can also be used to provide haptic feedback. These techniques are not limited to the pen body, as the patent also recommends that it be used to adjust the tip of the pen and to switch between thin and more rounded spheres. Apple makes a large number of patent applications every week, but a patent or application does not guarantee that the idea will be used in future products or services.
