On December 11, 2009, Rovio’s casual puzzle game Angry Birds went live on the iOS platform, media reported. While the game is fun and addictive, no one could have predicted that it would create the conditions for the biggest mobile game series ever.
Rovio then continued his success by creating several sequels, including working with big names and even exploring things other than himself, such as racing, role-playing and even jigsaw puzzles. Later, Angry Birds also launched television programs, movies and other film and television productions.
So far, the game has been downloaded more than 4.5 billion times. More than 1.8 billion items were sold, and it became the first game to be played in space.
While the popularity of the Angry Birds series has declined, the IP’s popularity has not declined. Just last month, Rovio created a “vent machine” to celebrate the game’s 10th anniversary. People can win prizes by punching and kicking the machine and yelling hysterically.
