Tesla officially unveiled its new electric pickup, Cybertruck, a few days ago, without a rear-view mirror, media outlet MSPoweruser reported. But it is speculated that the rear-view mirror will be replaced by a side-view camera on all Tesla Cybertruck vehicles for autonomous driving and other purposes.
The location of a particular camera does not appear to have been found in Musk’s previously presented Cybertruck prototype, but according to Twitter user Vincent, it managed to record the location of the hidden camera, neatly hidden in a fender:
Cybertruck has replaced the rear-view mirrors with a camera and screen, and the field of view is almost zero when the door is opened. In addition, the side view camera may occupy space in the door A column.
U.S. law still requires vehicles to have rear-view mirrors installed, but Elon Musk may be betting on the future, as Cybertruck won’t go public until about two years later, when the law may have changed.
