On December 16th, local time, Czech Prime Minister Andrei Babish confirmed to the Czech News Agency that the cabinet had unanimously dismissed The Head of the National Cyber and Information Security Agency, Du?an Navr?til. Mr Babish said Mr Nafratil lacked the necessary management and communication skills and was inexperienced.
The successor will be chosen by a seven-member committee of heads of intelligence agencies. In the meantime, the bureau will be temporarily chaired by deputy director Jaroslav Schm?d.
On December 17th the Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency issued a sudden warning to government agencies not to use software and hardware products from Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. The move was later criticised by Prime Minister Babish as “too hasty”. Czech President Milos Zeman also said his warnings about Russian and Chinese influence were unfounded and would harm the Czech Republic’s economic interests.
