Apple unveils new 2C54 firmware for AirPods and AirPods Pro

Media reported that Apple has introduced a new version of the 2C54 firmware for the AirPods and AirPods Pro. It’s also the first time Apple has combined two different versions of wireless headphones to update, rather than offering them separately. The update process is taking place automatically, but it’s unclear which issues have been fixed or what features have been enhanced. As the second firmware update for the AirPods Pro, the last time (build number 2B588) was on November 14and, and it is not available for the first generation of AirPods.

Media speculated that the new firmware may introduce compatibility enhancements to apple ecosystems and other operating systems, as well as some performance improvements.

Whether it’s the first generation of AirPods or this year’s new AirPods Pro wireless headset, updates can be done in the background — and once connected to an iPhone or iPad, the update will automatically start.

Apple does not yet offer a separate firmware update mechanism, but can check the current firmware version by going to the Settings app and click on “General – about AirPods.”

Note that the update process requires the AirPods to be placed in the accompanying charging case and the attachments are accessible to the iOS device.
