BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) — Two U.S. technology companies are now working on a new business to create a database of human faeces that allows volunteers to send photos of feces for research and analysis, the Daily Mail of London reported.
The two companies are The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Auggi Startup and Microbiology Seed, a company that studies the human microbiome, and it has developed an artificial intelligence system called Auggi in collaboration with MIT researchers to study and analyze human feces.
Every day, large quantities of fecal samples are washed away, and the size, shape, color, composition, concentration and frequency of feces have important implications for the overall health of humanbeing.
Intestinal disease is a common disease that often goes unnoticed, and the team hopes to learn more about the new study, which shows that three-quarters of the world’s population suffer from some form of digestive problems, including constipation, diarrhea, bloating and irregular bowel movements.
Pictured is the Bristol Fecite Meter, which classifies feces into seven types.
They infer the health of the human gut by training artificial intelligence Auggi to use the Bristol Fecal Survey to classify photos of volunteers’ feces, creating a universal database of human faeces.
Bristol’s fecal gauges range from type 1 (defined as a “separate hard block” associated with constipation) to type 7 (defined as a “liquid dense, solid block” associated with inflammation of the intestines), and normal feces is generally type 3 or 4, like “smooth, soft sausages or snakes”.
To protect the privacy of volunteers, the researchers delete all metadata and other identifying information from the photo and send it to Auggi for analysis.
First, the team used Peredo mud glue to prototype feces to test Auggi’s fecal shape recognition, and Auggi spent a lot of time creating different Peredo fecal models, which we worked on as a 3D-printed toilet to simulate the condition of human feces in real life.
They then uploaded images and data to Reddit, which has many users uploaded photos of their defecation. The long-term goal of the project is to create a tool that allows users to better manage their gut health, especially among people with indigestion.
How can people defecate healthily?
People pay attention to defecation every day is very important, most of the intestines respond better to regular habits, about 30 minutes after eating may be the time the intestines work, which is a “gastrointestinal reaction”, that is, eating food will produce waves of activity in the intestines.
If people have constipation, try not to rush to the toilet, properly endure 10 minutes, it is best to choose a comfortable toilet defecation when you are not in a hurry to do other things.
Try not to take medication, if you are taking it, contact your doctor to ask if the drug will cause constipation, if possible, do not take medication stoicism, choose to take other medications.
Into the toilet style
It’s important to go to the toilet to maintain the correct posture, first of all, to make sure that you feel comfortable when you go to the toilet, usually squat is the most natural, you may find that putting your feet on the footstool, about 20-30 cm tall, helps to improve the pelvic rectum angle, very conducive to defecation.
Relax, keep breathing normally, don’t hold your breath, because it will make you more nervous, and at the same time, tighten ingress the abdominal muscles, you will feel the intestines forward or push ingress, this is the “stent effect”, concentrate on relaxing the anus or rectal, so that feces can be normally excreted, not abdominal tightening, and the anus does not relax.
Drink plentiful water every day
Keep drinking 6-8 glasses of water, about 1.5 litres, daily, unless otherwise recommended by your doctor, as it may cause dehydration if the body does not replenish it.
Dehydration can also lead to constipation and limit the intake of coffee and alcohol as much as possible, as this can irritate the intestines and lead to dehydration.
Eating high-fiber foods does not provide optimal defecation
Regular eating of food can have the best stimulation of the intestines, and if you don’t eat, especially if you don’t eat breakfast, you can cause slow movement or irregular bowel movements. It is important to note that high-fiber foods are not the best food for constipation patients, that a regular diet and adequate drinking water are very important to the body, and that excessive consumption of high-fiber foods can lead to bloating and discomfort.
If you feel that your diet lacks fiber, eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can, which is soluble fiber, while grains are insoluble fiber.
Enhanced physical activity can improve bowel defecation habits, help stimulate the normal work of the intestines, but must maintain moderate exercise, excessive physical activity will not achieve a good defecation effect.
If you’re in a very negative lifestyle (driving to work every day and sitting at work every day), you should keep walking after lunch, while strengthening your body’s sphincter and pelvic muscles may help improve your gut function. (Ye Ding Cheng)
